Career Pathway Choices: Advice from Mr. Talbert

“I try to help people get on their career path and find what’s best for them.”

Brian Talbert

There are many choices you can make after high school and here are some of the best.

If you were to do trade school, you can get an easy and a quick diploma and you work for the city, so you have lots of opportunities for jobs and money. As of now you can become an home inspector or an HVAC (Heating, ventilation, and air conditioning) technician.

Another choice you can make after is regular college. It can be expensive but to get the highest, or the best careers, you need to most likely attend college and receive a higher education.

According to Susan Green, “more girls attend college than boys.”

You could volunteer to help students at the school you attended or even study for being a teacher and become a student-teacher until you graduate, and become a real teacher then.

There are a lot of good careers like lawyers and scientists. Also engineers; with engineering comes chemical, and technological engineering. Some people feel like college isn’t there groove and either dropout and work 9 to 5, or own businesses, which is sometimes good.

Here are some words from Mr. Talbert, Oyler’s college access counselor: “I try to help people get on their career path and find what’s best for them, but it’s not OK to not have a path and just sit home and play video games.”

“It’s also OK to start your own business and make lots of money and become your own boss and make your own schedules. With this you can eat, sleep and drink, work.”
