It is finally your time to use your voice and go vote. The candidates for this year’s presidential election is Joe Biden and Donald Trump. Donald Trump is the current president and Joe Biden is the former vice president.

Voting is important because it really does make a difference. The act of voting itself is a form of civic responsibility. For a number of Americans, voting is their only chance to engage and be involved in society. The 15th amendment guarantees our rights to vote as American citizens no matter the color of our skin, our race, nationality, religion, etc. It is our right! With that being said, I had asked a few of the people around me who are over 18 and legally allowed to vote, why is voting important to them?

“This year was my first time voting, and I believe that voting is my right as a citizen to express my views during the election. I also believe that voting can make a big difference in our society.” That quote was from my sister, Haylee Foist.

I also took to the internet for a few more opinions. I watched a video about the importance of the African American vote. In the video, there were some interviews being held. A woman, Morgan, who is a Chicago resident stated, “it comes down to you either care about people or you don’t, you care  about racial justice or you don’t.”

During this election especially, the African American and Latina populations were most at risk, based on health care, education, and economic opportunity.

“Education is going from race-based to tax base, it should be based on interesting worth not just based on taxes.”

To conclude this story, I would just like to say that voting is important. We need to have a voice in times like these, and we can make a difference because of every last vote matters.

There’s no such thing as a vote that doesn’t matter, it all matters.”
