Winter Sports Season is underway. One of the most popular sports for winter is Cheerleading.
Oyler held a Cheer Clinic to prepare for the season. In an interview with Coach Demontay he said the purpose of the Oyler Cheer Clinic “was for anyone that was interested in cheer, they would have an opportunity to try it out and see what it’s about and what happens during cheer with no strings attached. If they came to the clinic they could learn cheers and a dance and after the clinic if they felt like they didn’t want to be on the cheer team, that was okay and they didn’t have to. But if they wanted to, they would already have some background of what to expect during the season.”
He later went on to say that “It was also for them to get to know the other people who were interested in being on the cheer team.” Throughout the clinic, the girls were taught a dance and four cheers. The clinic went on for two weeks, during the first days it was a get-to-know-each-other type of thing. Then the next couple of days were days the dance was taught. The rest of the time cheers were being taught, and people were getting the help they needed if they were struggling. On the last two days of the clinic, Coach Demontay made cuts and gave out uniforms to the people who made the team.
Now to the fun parts of the clinic!!! Some fun things that we did during the cheer clinic were some of the activities we did to get to know one another. At the end of clinic, we did a bake sale with a few of the new cheerleaders #FUNNNNN. I interviewed mostly everyone who attended the Cheer Clinic and asked them how they felt about it, and if there was anything they think could have gone differently. Here’s what some of them had to say about it.
Natoria, a Senior, said, “In my opinion, I feel that it went very well, I just wish that some things went differently but all in all it was good bringing new girls in and seeing first-time experiences with some of the ladies and for the people who have been cheering it’s good to see their faces again.”
Helema, a Senior who is new to cheer, said “I feel like it was a little more advanced than just learning the basic stuff but It was fun and exciting. I really liked it and enjoyed being and making new relationships with the girls. I give the clinic a 10/10 and I would recommend it to others.”
If you would like to see if all our hard work paid off, then come out and see the cheerleaders at our first game on December 3rd against DePaul Cristo Rey at The Madhouse!!!!!!
