Oyler Senior, Alejandra (Ali) Martinez has been voted Cincinnati Enquirer Student of the Week for September 6th.
Each week the Cincinnati Enquirer posts an article highlighting two students who can be voted on for Student of the Week.
“It feels amazing to be voted Cincinnati Enquirer Student of the Week and thank you to everyone that voted for me, it really means a lot! I was tracking it all week and couldn’t believe how close it was at the end” Ali said.
The students have to be nominated by someone, and for Ali, Brian Talbert nominated her. Brian is Oyler’s College Readiness Coordinator and works with students on applying to college, scholarship applications and so much more. He nominated Ali because of how involved she is and her ability to balance classes, sports and clubs while being a role model in the school.
“I want to say thank you to Mr. Talbert for thinking of me and nominating me. I am excited to continue working with him this year” said Ali.
Ali is involved in many activities and programs at Oyler, including three different athletic teams, student Council, the spirit store, media arts, the theater program and much more. She currently has a 3.88 GPA and sits second in her class. Ali wants to be a general surgeon in the future and has taken part in two different summer camps, the Northern Kentucky University Health Camp and University of Cincinnati Medical Sciences Summer Institute, as she works towards her dream job.
Ali is looking at multiple schools for college, which include Miami of Ohio, Ohio University and the University of Cincinnati main campus.
Oyler broadcast students had the chance to sit down with Ali for a one on one video interview. Check that out on the Oyler Media Arts YouTube page early next week.
