Everybody loves Christmas, especially Christmas movies. The classic Christmas movies we think of include: Elf, Frosty the Snowman, Polar Express, Grandma Got Run Over By a Reindeer, and Jack Frost. This year, some of the classics have been remade, specifically The Grinch. The Grinch is a classic film based on a book by Dr. Seuss, about a green creature who hated Christmas so much that he stole it from the Who’s of Whoville down the mountain. But seeing the spirit of Christmas in Whoville, his heart grows too big to carry out his grinchy plan. The new Grinch film has the same premise, but the remake uses new animation, different voice actors, and, according to Carolyn Giardina of the Hollywood Reporter website, the new film has given the Grinch an official origin story. One Oyler student who has seen the new film says knowing about the childhood of the Grinch made her sympathize with him. She said the remake, which opened in November, added to his character. “I think the new one showed more personality, and because it showed more of what he went through as a kid, it caused me to feel bad for the Grinch.”
