ALBUQUERQUE, NM — A man is in custody after a fatal stabbing Saturday morning in southeast Albuquerque, and police say the suspect now faces a murder charge. Albuquerque police identified the man arrested as 22-year-old Aidan Gregg-Kriegel.

Officers were called to the 900 block of Louisiana Boulevard SE around 7:30 a.m. after the stabbing was reported. Police said the victim was a 72-year-old man who was found with multiple stab wounds to the neck. His name has not been released while authorities wait to notify next of kin.

Police say witnesses saw the suspect with the victim

According to Albuquerque police, witnesses told officers they saw Gregg-Kriegel with the victim before and after the stabbing. That account became part of the investigation that led detectives to arrest him in connection with the death.

Police also said a neighbor handed Gregg-Kriegel a cell phone, and that phone was used to report the incident. The timing and sequence described by witnesses were among the details investigators used as they worked the scene in the southeast Albuquerque neighborhood.

Arrest followed questioning shortly after the stabbing

Victim found stabbed multiple times in the neck
