HUNTSVILLE, AL — A 23-year-old Madison County man has been charged with murder after New Hope police found his mother dead inside a home during a weekend welfare check. Authorities said officers were called to the 2000 block of Oak Grove Road on Saturday and discovered 53-year-old Anna Young inside.

Investigators quickly identified her son, Donovan Axton Young, as a person of interest. By Sunday morning, he had been located and taken into custody. The Madison County Sheriff’s Office said he is being held in the Madison County Jail without bond.

New Hope officers respond to a welfare check on Oak Grove Road

Police said the investigation began when New Hope officers went to the home after concerns prompted a welfare check. When they arrived at the residence in the 2000 block of Oak Grove Road, they found Anna Young dead inside.
