WEST PALM BEACH, FL — A woman was found dead after a shooting Friday in Arden, and investigators say the man suspected in her death later barricaded himself inside a downtown West Palm Beach hotel room.

The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office said deputies discovered the woman’s body shortly after 3 p.m. inside a home in the 1400 block of Tangle Orchid Trace. Authorities did not identify her.

Detectives said the shooting happened in Arden, a community off Southern Boulevard about 10 miles west of State Road 7. Details about what led to the shooting were not immediately released.

Investigators said the woman was found in a residence on the 1400 block of Tangle Orchid Trace. The Palm Beach County Sheriff’s Office has not publicly said how long she had been there before deputies arrived or whether anyone else was inside the home.

Suspect fled to downtown West Palm Beach, investigators say

After the shooting, investigators learned the man suspected of killing the woman had left Arden and gone to West Palm Beach, according to the sheriff’s office.

Authorities said they later determined he had barricaded himself inside a room at The Ben Hotel on Narcissus Avenue. Police did not immediately say how they tracked him to the hotel or how long he had been there.

The hotel is in downtown West Palm Beach, a few miles from the location where deputies first found the victim. The sheriff’s office said the case remained active as law enforcement continued working to secure the scene.
