The Newport Aquarium brings aquatic animals to Oyler’s gym this summer! On June 15, a presentation was held by Anna L and Jordan Z for Oyler’s summer students on stingrays and students even got the chance to touch the stingrays if they wanted.
Anna says, “we want them to know that even though they’re here in Ohio, they still have an impact on animals that might not be from this area.”
The importance of being kind to animals and our environment was highly emphasized in Anna and Jordan’s presentation.
Jordan says, “we want kids to be able to love the animals before we can teach them how to save them.”
Jordan and Anna tell us that we should be picking up all of our trash so it doesn’t make it to Florida and not overfishing; causing our sea creature friends to have less food.
Students were taught about the “Stingray Shuffle”; a tactic to protect stingrays and ourselves. According to Anna and Jordan, the Stingray Shuffle is when you rub your feet together when walking in the ocean to avoid stepping on stingrays.
To see more animals like these stingrays, visit the Newport Aquarium; open from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m.
