On September 5th, I had a phone interview with Yasmina from Berea for admissions. I’ve been setting up my application to attend Berea College. Berea is a great college for me because it’s not too far from home, but I also get a chance to be away from home. The people from Berea that I’ve met or have seen before always tend to give off strong good energy. They encourage and provide work experiences for students while also being students.
Berea College was founded in 1855 and located about 45 minutes south of Lexington, Kentucky. Something amazing about Berea is that every enrolled student pays $0 in tuition. If you want to learn more about Berea and how no tuition works, check out this link: https://www.berea.edu/no-tuition
During my interview I was able to ask a couple of questions:
Question One: My first question was about the study abroad program. A study abroad program is where students are allowed to travel to another country for a certain amount of time. You can study abroad for the summer time, in the winter, for a semester, or even for a year. When studying abroad you learn at another institution and also get to pick what courses you want to take, no matter what major you have. Berea supplies 75% of the money for students going abroad.
Question Two: My second question was about vehicles. Most colleges have a rule that Freshmen are not allowed to have a vehicle on campus. Berea recently started to allow Freshmen students to bring their own vehicles because they have enough parking spaces, but it’s also first come first serve. If I go to Berea, I plan to take a vehicle and have it on campus.
Question Three: My last question was about the jobs provided. Berea encourages their students to work while also being a student. It prepares students and builds their skills in the workplace while also balancing their academics. It also aids with career development and preparing students for their future.
Overall, the interview went very well. There was a lot of positive energy. I enjoyed talking to Yasmina and having complete detailed answers to my questions. The interview made me feel more prepared for what I will be seeing when I visit in October. Both my mom and dad will be attending the visit with me so they can see the campus and here more about the school. Hopefully I enroll at Berea in 2025! Check out some amazing photos of Berea College.
